How It All Began

In 2002 Police Chief Timothy Kalavsky and Fire Chief Ken Ledford of Bedford Heights, Ohio made a social call on Roy Meadows at his office in Bedford Heights. Mr. Meadows took his guests on a tour of his sign and survey companies. During the tour he explained that his companies provided surveys and blueprints of existing buildings and delivered value-added versions of these plans on digital CAD discs. Upon hearing this, Police Chief Kalavsky said,
“I wish we had blueprints of our local school buildings.” Mr. Meadows couldn’t believe what he heard. Having served on the Nordonia Hills City School Board for two terms and being involved in the school system for over twenty-one years along with his wife Carolyn, Mr. Meadows immediately felt concern for the safety of the children in the district and at the same time realized the opportunity that was before him. Having extensive knowledge of construction and blueprints, Mr. Meadows began work on a colorized navigational system that would generate blueprints of school buildings as well as exterior site plans showing important data needed by emergency responders. With his experience in working with school budgets, he felt this navigational system must be simple and cost efficient. He turned to his family company, Surveys Unlimited, and its manager, Dennis Pruchnicki to help institute his idea. Drawings were made and colorized; emergency information was collected and incorporated on blueprints.

His family owned company, Roth Sign Studios, Inc. and his son, Chuck designed logos, signage and decals. Still one critical piece was missing. Mr. Meadows worked with Jay Simecek, president of the newly formed company Foremost Safety Solutions, Inc. and countless others were able to develop a procedure to input the data and blueprints on an easy to use compact disc. Finally, the idea was taking shape. Roy contacted Sue Chute, chairman of the Emergency Crisis Committee of the Nordonia Hills City Schools to tell her of his idea that it would enhance the district’s safety plans. They invited Mr. Meadows to make a presentation to the Committee consisting of local fire, police, EMS, educators and citizens. During this meeting, stakeholders from the entire community embraced Mr. Meadows’ vision, and Securing Our Students (SOS) was born. Foremost Safety Solutions, Inc. at the time located in Bedford Heights, Ohio was organized in 2002 and incorporated shortly thereafter, by its founder Roy Meadows. Noting how well this program was being received from educational institutions, the company took its program to other markets. Retaining the S.O.S. acronym the company decided to call this program Securing Our Society. This colorized navigational system serves as an invaluable safety program for any facility, i.e. airports, hospitals, malls, nursing homes, government buildings, commercial buildings and prison facilities etc...
Living in an era where emergency preparedness has long been neglected and is of extreme importance, the Foremost partners and
team conclude,
“We feel strongly that our S.O.S. navigational system will be a forerunner in the industry and help set the standard in the future.” In simple terms…Saving time can save lives!
